Come hiking in Paris with your family in Paris! Indeed, the French capital finally has its own hiking trail within the city limits! The GR 2024, the long-distance hiking trail also known as the GR75, was inaugurated on 15 June 2017.

This trail was designed to support the city’s bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024. It has worked out well as Paris will host the Olympics in 2024! This footpath forms a green belt and becomes a pleasant and green pedestrian route. The Cadet Residence tells you more…

A new long-distance hiking trail in Paris!

The GR 2024 loop is 50 kilometres long and passes through 9 arrondissements bordering on the neighbouring departments of Paris. The trail also connects the 7 GR trails in Paris: GR 1, GR 2, GR 14, GR 14A, GR 22 and GR 655. It is possible to start from any point on the trail, but there is a dominant starting point located under the Geode’s mirror ball in the Parc de la Villette. The trail then continues clockwise, but can be done the other way around, in sections of 4 to 5 kilometres for ease.

The trail is accessible to all, it is flat and easy to follow. That said, it is recommended to do this hike in several stages. Just remember to bring water and wear good trainers. You can always take breaks in the green areas along the way or sit on a terrace for a drink.

What to see on this Parisian walking trail?

It allows you to walk around Paris on a single path: an advantage for discovering the contours of the city while passing through a multitude of gates, sports venues and 75 Parisian green spaces!

You will pass through the Porte de la Villette, Porte de la Chapelle, Porte de Montmartre, Clichy, Asnières, Passy, Saint-Cloud, Versailles, Châtillon, Orléans, Arcueil, Italie, Ivry, Charenton, Dorée, Montreuil, Bagnolet and Les Lilas.
You will also see some sports centres such as the Chiquito de Cambo fronton, near the André Citroën park, the Stade Nautique des Tourelles, now renamed the Georges Vallerey swimming pool, near the Porte des Lilas, as well as the Parc des Expositions de la Porte de Versailles for handball and table tennis, the AccorHotels Arena for basketball, the Parc des Princes for football, Roland-Garros for tennis and the Zenith de Paris, where weightlifting competitions will be held.

Among the various green spaces crossed, one discovers the Kellermann Park in the 13th arrondissement, the Bois de Vincennes and the Parc de Bercy in the 12th arrondissement, the Parc de la Villette in the 19th arrondissement, the Parc Clichy-Batignolles in the 17th arrondissement, the Bois de Boulogne in the 16th arrondissement, the Parc André Citroën in the 15th arrondissement…

To follow the trail, simply follow the markers symbolised by two horizontal red and white lines. Some of them are located on trees, in the greenest parts of the city; others are more difficult to spot, especially in the city where numerous tags, logos, signs… can make it difficult to find the marker.
Going around Paris on this GR trail allows you to visit Paris in a different way, to have a peripheral vision of the capital while passing by emblematic and exotic places.

Travelling alone in Paris

  • 22/05/2021
  • Uncategorized

A luxury for some, a passion for some or a sudden urge for others, travelling alone in Paris is becoming more and more common. Perhaps a solo getaway is the right compromise for you? It’s a more flexible way to travel than if you were travelling with your partner or family. You are the only one to decide what you want to do; no compromises, no concessions. The Cadet Residence tells you more about this progressive trend in 2021.

Experience special moments when travelling alone in Paris

According to a study conducted by Booking, solo travellers have increased by 164% from just 14% post global pandemic. There is a strong need for a post-conflict break: tourists are turning to famous destinations like Paris on their own and going to discover other people!

Experiencing unique moments

When you travel alone, you don’t have to ask anyone else’s opinion to go out, visit, or go to a place you particularly like. The destination of Paris offers the possibility to meet people, other travellers and to exchange with them if you wish.
With the reopening of shops, restaurants and cultural venues, you can go wherever you want to have your best experience. You can do things you will never forget in the post-confinement period!

Eat where you want

In Paris, there is no shortage of restaurants, you can eat all the food in the world or go local. When you’re on your own, you can go and eat wherever you want: a Mexican burrito, sushi in the best Japanese restaurant in town, a traditional French dish in a brasserie on the Grands Boulevards, an Asian meal in the 13th arrondissement, an Indian dish or a gastronomic meal in the 16th… You’re on your own to decide on the menu and only listen to your own desires of the moment. A luxury!

Go to the cinema and the theatre whenever you want

The choice of film or play is in your hands when you travel alone. You can see the latest action film at the Grand Rex, or the latest romantic film in a local cinema. Similarly, you can choose the play you want, in the genre of your choice. No concessions to be made with your partner or family. The timetable is also free: are you a morning person? No problem! Or late at night? No problem! You can even meet people and other people on your own.

Shop to your heart’s content

If you’re a shopping addict, Paris is the city for you! And if you’re on your own, then do yourself a favour. Browse the Rue Rivoli and its boutiques, stroll the Champs-Élysées several times, treat yourself to a luxury jewellery store, or browse the large shopping centres within the city, such as Châtelet and the Forum des Halles. Wander the streets of the Marais to find designer clothes shops and go on a thrift store adventure in the same area, in Paris 5.

Stay wherever you want to

Have you been dreaming of going solo in Paris and staying in your favourite neighbourhood? Now is the time to do it and book. The 9th arrondissement is central, perfect for visiting all of Paris as it should be. The district gathers the Paris Opera, the Grands Boulevards with the Grévin museum, the rue des Martyrs and its shops and the Cadet residence, a perfect place to stay in Paris when you travel alone. You can also opt for livelier areas if you like to party or quieter areas to relax in the evening. Again, the choice is yours alone!

Travelling alone to Paris to recharge your batteries

Wanting to travel alone comes from a desire to recharge your batteries more easily, far from your daily routine and forced telecommuting. It’s normal to want to get some fresh air, relax and see if the grass is greener elsewhere. For a moment, take advantage of the capital, its quiet and lively streets, its typical districts to recharge your batteries.

An ideal location to visit Paris alone: the Cadet residence

It is an ideal accommodation solution to take advantage of the comfort of the house and the advantages of the hotel (reception, cleaning, spacious area…). The residence is also close to other typical places in the centre of Paris such as the Opera Garnier, the Musée Grévin or the Grands Boulevards.

Visit the Louvre from our hotel in Paris 9

The Palais du Louvre, commonly known as the Louvre Museum, is located in the 1st arrondissement, adjacent to the quays of the Seine. It is a former royal castle which now houses the internationally renowned museum. From the apartment hotel Cadet, the Louvre museum is only 13 minutes away by metro (line 7) and only 20 minutes on foot. Discover the Palace of the Kings of France just a few metro stops away from the residence. Treat yourself to an exceptional moment in the Palais-Royal district, which includes the palace, the garden, the galleries and the theatre. The Tuileries Gardens offer a great place to take a stroll, enjoy the Ferris Wheel and spend some quality time in the sun.

The Louvre Museum

The Louvre is the most visited museum in the world and the second most visited paying cultural site in France, behind Disneyland. In 2019, the museum welcomed 9.6 million visitors. It has impressive collections: more than 615,000 works, of which only 35,000 pieces are exhibited in its 360,000 m². Its glass pyramid houses the entrance to the museum and was designed by the Chinese-American architect Ieoh Ming Pei. It is the first major construction to be made of laminated glass. It was inaugurated by François Mitterrand in 1988 and 1989. The Palais-Royal is the monumental complex on the other side of the rue de Rivoli; it has a beautiful garden with a fountain and adjoins the Comédie Française, the Constitutional Council, the Banque de France and the Council of State. The Domaine National du Palais-Royal, whose entrance is on rue Saint-Honoré, is also home to the famous Buren Columns and the palace gardens. The Tuileries garden is opposite the Cour carrée Napoléon where the Louvre pyramid and the museum are located; the two are separated by the Place du Carrousel.

A bit of History

The palace was a fortified castle in 1190 under King Philip Augustus. Later, Charles V turned the castle into a royal residence, then Philip II took over the residence. Numerous works followed to transform the fortress into a residence and then into a large museum: demolition of wings and construction of new wings in Renaissance style. In 1594, Henri IV united the Louvre palace with the Tuileries palace; this was the period of the “Grand Dessein”. But in 1681, when Louis XIV decided to take the Château de Versailles as his main royal residence, the Louvre remained as it was and work stopped. In the 18th century, new projects were undertaken to complete the “Grand Dessein”, including the transformation of the Louvre into a museum. This project began during the reign of Louis XV and was completed at the time of the Revolution. In 1882, the École du Louvre was created in the Flore wing. Louis XIV made it possible to expand the art collection in the Louvre. The Louvre Museum opened on 10 August 1793, under the name of Museum central des arts de la République. The Louvre pyramid was built in 1983 by Ieoh Ming Pei; the Tuileries garden was redeveloped in 1990.

The collections

The most famous collections of the Louvre are known throughout the world. The Mona Lisa (1503-1506) by Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most famous paintings, The Wedding at Cana by Paolo Veronese (1562), The Rite of Napoleon by Jacques Louis David (1806-1807), The Raft of the Medusa by Théodore Géricault (1818-1819), and Liberty Guiding the People by Delacroix (1830). Among the most famous sculptures, the museum houses the Venus de Milo representing the goddess Venus from Ancient Greece (100 BC), the Crouching Scribe from Ancient Egypt, the Victory of Samothrace from Ancient Greece (190 BC) or the Winged Bulls of Khorsabad (713 BC).
