Cadet street: an emblematic street of Paris

Located in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, Cadet street is renowned for its liveliness and its atmosphere resembling a small village.

The little story of Cadet street

The Cadet Street is a street in Paris 9 which has the particularity of being split in two. The first part of the street begins at Faubourg-Montmartre and ends at La Fayette. The second leaves from La Fayette, and continues to rue de Montholon.

Originally, the street was just a path. In the 17th century, market gardening near the road pushed people to deposit their refuse on the side of the road, which gave it the name “highway street“, or “way of the road”.

Later, in the 18th century, Jean Cadet and his family, owners of the land crossing the road, gave it its name: Cadet street. It would seem that this Cadet family had as a descendant the Chevalier Cadet de Chambine, the mayor of Montmorency.

Since 1859, Cadet street continues to be split in two, to allow the passage of rue Lafayette.

Funky Ba: the authentic Thai restaurant on Cadet street
