This institution is none other than the former home of the painter Ary Scheffer, built in 1830. It was more specifically a mansion in the neighborhood of the New Athens. This place has now the purpose to reproduce the historical frame evoking the romantic period of the 19th century.
The ground floor is dedicated to Georges Sand, aka Aurore Dupin. Key figure of romanticism, she created an incredible novelistic work, composed of theater, numerous letters, and many literary works. She is also known for her commitment to defend women, passion, independence and the Republic.
The 1st floor is devoted to the Dutch painter. Ary Scheffer was one of the most representative artists of Romanticism, and one of the best portraitists of his time. His works are presented next to other remarkable pieces made by his contemporaries. You’ll discover there numerous sculptures, paintings, works of Art, portraits, furniture, etc.
From May 22 to September 15, the Museum of the Romantic Life and the Petit Palais present you the exhibition “Paris romantique 1815 – 1848, Les salons littéraires”. Sorry… “salons” what?
